Newbridge House and Farm is one of the most intact Georgian naturalistic parklands as well as the second largest park in Dublin. Join us for a day of talks and tours as part of National Heritage Week 2019 to learn more about the estate's rich past and exciting future.
11am-11.45am Pleasure & Pastime – Newbridge Demesne Tickets: €5
Cathal Dowd Smith, Curator of Newbridge House, will discuss the many manifestations of sports and leisure activities that took place over the past 300 years in Newbridge Demesne. Drawing on the rich body of archival materials in Newbridge this talk will explore how people used the park for leisure activities, as well as reveal Newbridge as the location of Irish sporting history.
12 noon-12.45pm Labour & Life – Newbridge Demesne as a Place of Work Tickets: €5
An exploration of the relationship between landlord and labourer on an Irish country estate during the Great Famine. Based on new research, Tuan O’Carroll will discuss how labour carried out as famine relief fundamentally altered the landscape of the park in ways that can still be seen to this day.
2pm-2.45pm Parkland Tour Tickets: €5
The second largest park in Dublin and open to the public for the past 30 years, Newbridge remains an uniquely intact Georgian naturalistic parkland. Explore the highlights, including some exquisite specimens of trees, on a guided walking tour of the demense and discover the story of how the estate has developed over the past 300 years.
3pm-3.45pm Living Habitat – The Fingal Red Deer Herd at Newbridge Tickets: €5
Join President of the Veterinary Council of Ireland, Peadar O’Scanaill, for the fascinating story of the Irish Red Deer Herd at Newbridge.
4pm-4.45pm The Future of Newbridge – The Demesne & its Historic Landscape Free
Newbridge has the only surviving intact 18th-century demesne in Dublin, practically unaltered in over 230 years. Fingal County Architect, Fionnuala May, will present on the conservation plan for this historic park.
